We're in the Frankenstein room of Keith Junior High School.
Yesterday, Penelac unplugged this bad puppy right here. This was the old transformer. I believe it used to run the old old one. This is a replacement. It would have run a lot of the houses on this block, I believe.
But that is a transformer that ran all the power here to Keith Junior High School.
One of the cool pieces of this is these guys up at the top up here. I was told if I get too close to those, it would arc and kill me on the spot. So, we try to stay away from those, even though I believe they're now detached.
One other cool thing about this concrete room, a good 15 feet below the surface of the ground, is that this was the old wires coming in, three-phase coming in here.
So, this is what was replaced. And I believe this would have been original to the building—1923. How cool is that, right? They just cut them off and left them there for posterity's sake.
And then all of these brackets. And then a really, really old whatever that was there.
This was replaced before I bought the building, probably about 15 or 20 years ago, I believe.
So how cool is that? The Frankenstein room at Keith Junior High School—a hidden underground space filled with pieces of the building's electrical history, from original three-phase wiring to a massive transformer that once powered the entire school. It's a fascinating glimpse into the engineering and infrastructure that kept this historic building running for generations.
