Keith Junior High recently welcomed some special visitors carrying pieces of the school’s athletic history with them.
During a tour of the building, members of the Keyser Longs group brought in basketball memorabilia and shared memories from their time connected to the school and its historic gymnasium. Among the highlights was a vintage basketball that immediately sparked stories and nostalgia from years gone by.
One visitor, Butch Dillon, didn’t hesitate when asked about his favorite part of the tour.
The gymnasium stood out immediately.
For many former students and athletes, the gym remains one of the most memorable spaces in the entire building — a place filled with competition, school spirit, friendships, and unforgettable moments. Walking back into that space years later clearly brought back powerful memories.
In fact, the group joked that it was difficult to get Butch to leave the gym once he stepped inside.
Moments like these continue to highlight the deep emotional connection many people still have to Keith Junior High. As restoration and redevelopment continue, the building is becoming more than just a renovation project — it is also serving as a place where generations reconnect with important pieces of their past.
