Modern Upgrades Inside a Historic Keith Junior High School

Progress continues inside Keith Junior High School as restoration and redevelopment work moves forward — and some of the behind-the-scenes construction happening right now is incredibly impressive to watch.

Inside what was once likely the school’s workshop area, crews are currently working to bring new electrical service into the building to support the future of the property and all the additions planned ahead.

The work is being handled by M&H Electric, and their team has been doing an outstanding job throughout the project.

One of the most fascinating parts of the process has been watching the core drilling operation take place. The equipment is actually anchored directly into the wall using Tapcons before the drill begins cutting through the concrete. Once the section is removed, it leaves behind a perfectly cylindrical piece of solid concrete — almost like a giant concrete core sample pulled straight from the wall.

What makes the project even more impressive is the sheer thickness of the original construction. The walls inside Keith are so substantial that the drill bit itself wasn’t long enough to make it all the way through. The crew had to wait for an extension attachment in order to continue the process and complete the opening.

Once finished, the new service will connect to a brand-new transformer outside the building, providing the power needed for future renovations, additions, and expanded community use throughout the property.

Moments like this are a reminder of how much work goes into breathing new life into a historic building. It’s not just about preserving the past — it’s also about modernizing the infrastructure so the building can continue serving the community for decades to come.

The transformation of Keith continues one step at a time, and it’s exciting to watch history and progress come together under one roof.
